On-Camera Acting and Audition Technique
As a professional actor for over 35 years, instructor Jamie Rose has literally thousands of hours of first-hand on-set and audition experience. She has done everything from series leads in multiple Network television series, starring roles in feature films, to one-day guest stars. She has auditioned at every level, from generals and pre-reads to Network tests. Last year she added Casting Director to her resume when she helped cast a TV Movie for the Sci-fi channel, Children of the Corn and a Disney Web Series. Jamie understands the casting process from both sides of the table and will give you practical tools that will take you through the audition to the set.
This workshop is designed as a laboratory to explore the application of acting technique in the audition process and on the set. You will learn:
AUDITION TECHNIQUE
- The art of strong script analysis
- How to keep your concentration in the waiting room
- How to handle nerves
- Techniques for taking “in-the-room” direction
- ON SET AND ON-CAMERA TECHNIQUE
Modulating your performance for different shots (Master vs Close-up)
Continuity or “Matching”. What it is. Why it is important.
From Demanding Divas to Diabolical Directors, how to keep your head while those around you are losing theirs.
“Setiquitte” or On-Set etiquette. A Movie/TV set is not a democracy. How to understand the secret hierarchy so you don’t step on anyone’s sensitive toes!
Additionally, at the last class, all students will have an opportunity to read for and receive feedback from a working Film and TV director (guest TBA*).
This intensive four-week workshop begins Saturday October 17th and will be held on four consecutive Saturday afternoons from 2-5pm through November 7th in North Hollywood.
